Context

Badotherm is a globally leading specialist in diaphragm seals. These advanced systems protect vulnerable pressure gauges against extremely demanding process conditions, such as ultra-high temperatures, toxic substances, high pressures and aggressive or corrosive chemicals. Alongside their standard products, Badotherm is known for custom engineering: instruments made to measure for the most challenging environments. They use high-grade and exotic materials such as Titanium, Hastelloy, Monel, Inconel and even gold coatings.

Challenge

Applying the required serial numbers, codes and logos to these varied metal housings and exotic alloys used to be traditional handwork. That turned out to be a bottleneck in the production process, with inconsistent aesthetic results. On top of that, Badotherm works with ultra-thin metal foils of just 0.075 mm for critical diaphragm seals. Cutting these wafer-thin foils to shape requires extreme precision; conventional stamping or milling quickly caused burrs or material deformation. Badotherm needed one versatile system that could take on both processes flawlessly.

Solution

The Lion Classic with ultra-fine laser settings. This system switches effortlessly between pin-sharp marking of heavy metal housings (including complex alloys like Hastelloy and Titanium) and burr-free micro-cutting of delicate 0.075 mm foils. All in one considered system, without any mechanical stress on the material.

Result

“What used to be handwork for us, the Lion Classic now does with speed and precision. We use it to mark metal products and cut thin metal foil (0.075mm) into non-standard shapes. Our production process has improved in both quality and speed.”
