Context
BKB Precision specialises in high-precision machining and injection moulding of high-grade technical plastics for the medical, semiconductor and high-tech industries. Every product demands micro-precision and may not deform structurally in any way.
Challenge
Standard fiber lasers introduce heat into the material, which can lead to slight melting, deformation or discolouration on sensitive injection-moulded plastics. BKB was looking for a pin-sharp ‘cold’ marking method that leaves the material intact. On top of that, they wanted a machine builder just as obsessed with quality and tolerances as they are.
Solution
Lion Lasers deployed the Lion UV. UV laser light triggers a photochemical reaction at the surface instead of a thermal reaction. This creates razor-sharp, high-contrast markings without any heat transfer or material deformation.
