History

2001: The Beginning of the Company

  • In 2001, I graduated with a specialization in laser technology.
  • After completing my studies, I started developing and building experimental machines while working at the Technical University of Eindhoven.
  • In the evenings, I founded a company to begin operations from home.
  • During this time, we built a workshop in our backyard to carry out laser production.

2004: First Laser

  • In 2004, we purchased a German Nd:YAG laser, specifically designed for high-quality engravings on metal and plastics.
  • We began selling machines from the German manufacturer to customers in the Netherlands, but our primary focus was on performing engraving work for clients.
  • From our backyard workshop, our entire family worked together to engrave thousands of items, including parts, lighters, pens, cups, and more.

2006: First Commercial Space

  • In 2006, we acquired our first dedicated commercial space in a multi-tenant business building on Gijzenveld in Breda.
  • This marked an important milestone in the growth of our company.

2007: Start of Imports from China

  • Inspired by my collaborations with Chinese colleagues at the University of Eindhoven, the idea to import laser systems from China was born.
  • Together with a Chinese colleague, I traveled across China in search of high-quality products.
  • In 2007, we brought the first systems to the Netherlands, which quickly gained popularity due to their competitive pricing.
  • At the time, we were the only supplier offering Chinese laser systems professionally, complete with installation, training, and maintenance.
  • All systems were modified by us to meet CE standards.

2009: Expansion and Development of our own Laser systems

  • At the end of 2009, we expanded with a second facility at Gijzenveld.
  • This additional space allowed us to develop our own laser systems, leading to the launch of the LionIndex, LionFiber, and LionMatch
  • These systems were specifically designed for marking (engraving) larger production volumes.
  • In 2010, we introduced the BabyLion, a compact all-around laser system suitable for both hobbyists and professionals.
  • We also completed the development of the Lion Jeans, a specialized system for creating designs on denim, fleece, and leather.

2014: Growth and relocation to Nikkelstraat

  • The company attracted an increasing number of professional clients, including large companies with higher production volumes.
  • As the only provider in the Netherlands capable of customizing industrial laser systems, we saw a growing demand for client-specific solutions, such as the “Egg Laser.”
  • This growth led to a lack of space, prompting us to temporarily rent two additional units from a neighbor.
  • By the end of 2014, we relocated to a larger facility on Nikkelstraat in Breda.

Optimization and innovation

  • With the setup of our new facility, we were able to optimize our workflows.
  • Chinese machines were removed from our product range, but we continued to focus on systems with an excellent price-to-quality ratio.
  • By designing smarter, we reduced labor requirements while producing high-quality Dutch laser systems.
  • We proudly introduced our new logo with the slogan “Dutch Laser Systems”, highlighting laser systems made in the Netherlands.

  • My vision for hiring staff has always been that motivation and enjoyment of work come first.
  • I prefer tailoring jobs to the person rather than placing people in strict roles.
  • I take great pride in our fantastic team, who, in a positive work environment, develop remarkable devices and consistently delight our customers.

Lion Lasers is committed to respectful interactions with colleagues, suppliers, and customers. We also emphasize treating materials and the environment with care and respect. Keeping our commitments is a priority, and we expect the same reliability from our customers within their sphere of influence. Companies that operate at the expense of others or their environment are not a good fit for us as clients.
